On January 1, 2022, I made a big decision.

I decided to walk away from the nonprofit I had co-founded so I could pursue coaching full-time.

Coaching was the thing that set my soul on fire and it made me feel like I was living in my purpose.

I couldn’t sideline it anymore, so I took a leap of faith.

Tuning in to the experts

For the first few weeks, I consumed everything I could on how to grow a coaching business.

I read books and articles, listened to podcasts, and even turned to questionably reliable content on Instagram.

I had calls with my buddies who worked in sales and took copious notes about how many times I would have to follow up with someone before they got back to me.

Eight times!??? Okay…I can do this

Then, I put my head down and relentlessly executed what I had learned for 5-months in a row.

Becoming a content creator

I became a content creation machine.

On a weekly basis, I created and released:

  • a podcast episode
  • a YouTube video
  • Near-daily articles on Medium
  • Daily Instagram reels
  • Daily Tik Toks

At first, I felt great because I was being so productive. I was following the advice of the experts and staying consistent.

It was a bit disheartening to spend hours creating a YouTube video that only a few people watched, but hey — you gotta start somewhere!

Each day I was overcoming immense resistance to speaking in front of a camera and spending so much time on social media. It was exhausting and draining but I figured it would all be worth it.

Hitting a wall

After 5 months of creating consistent content, I hit a wall.

I’m not talking about a gentle fender bender or backing up into a telephone pole. It was like a head-on…
