This Year, Skip The New Year’s Resolutions
Here is what you should do instead
Of all the questions you could possibly ask yourself, there’s one that seems to be the most important.
It’s not staring into a puddle and asking who am I? like Derek Zoolander outside the music awards.
It’s asking what am I aiming at?
Your aim will determine the direction you go in. It also determines who you will become.
Having a defined direction allows other people, opportunities, and the Universe to conspire to help you.
With no aim, no external help will arrive.
“If a man knows not to which port he sails, no wind is favorable.” — Seneca
Note: your aim doesn’t need to be something well-defined and traditional like a lawyer or a doctor.
You can simply aim at becoming better at everything you do.
The Japanese invented a whole word and concept around the topic of continuous improvement. It’s called Kaizen.
Embarking on a quest
Once you have an aim, the call to adventure will find you.
It may come in the form of a formal invitation (i.e. new job) or it may be just a whisper in your heart.
